Comprehensive Lubrication Solutions for Robots

Industrial, collaborative and humanoid robots use precision joints, dexterous hands, drive modules and screws under frequent reversals, small oscillations, alternating loads and temperature changes. Fretting, grease throw-off, accuracy drift, noise and seal failure are common failure drivers. Correct specialty-lubricant selection reduces wear, preserves repeatability, extends service life and lowers maintenance frequency. SEIVIO solutions cover joints, cables, dexterous hands, rotary modules, linear modules and planetary roller screws.

Robot Joints

Joint lubrication covers reducer housings, rotary bearings and seals. Six-axis industrial robots, collaborative robots and humanoid upper-arm, forearm and wrist joints use RV, harmonic and planetary precision reducers exposed to heavy shocks and small-angle reciprocation. Conventional grease may bleed, gum or be thrown onto encoders and sensors.

Roelub G259 serves harmonic and planetary reducer housings, combining extreme-pressure, antiwear and shear performance with wide-temperature stability for long-life sealed and lifetime-fill joint gearboxes. For heavily loaded RV reducers, Roelub X002 semifluid grease, in NLGI 0-000 consistencies, provides low cold-start torque and a stable film under high contact stress, limiting cycloidal-wheel and pin-tooth wear and preserving positioning accuracy during heavy six-axis robot maintenance.

Roelub F266 protects crossed-roller and thin-section four-point-contact rotary bearings against fretting during small-angle oscillation. It reduces noise and maintains path accuracy in base, upper-arm and wrist bearings. Roelub L424 lubricates seal lips and springs, with compatibility with NBR and FKM seals to prevent aging, swelling and joint leakage.

Flexible Cables

Repeated joint bending and twisting cause friction between conductors, shields and jackets, leading to jacket wear and eventual conductor breakage. Lubricants must not bleed or migrate into motors or circuit boards and must be compatible with PVC, TPU and TPE jackets. Cuszlub K377 Precision Mechanism Grease combines shear stability, low bleeding and strong adhesion. Applied within cable bundles and at jacket-contact points, it reduces repeated-bending wear without contaminating nearby electronics, supporting cable protection in humanoid and collaborative robots.

Dexterous Hands

Miniature gears, bearings and fingertip hinges operate with small clearances and frequent starts and stops. They require low friction, throw-off resistance and plastic compatibility; escaped grease can contaminate workpieces and optical sensors. Roelub G331 provides low friction and thixotropic behavior: it shear-thins during movement and adheres firmly at rest. It resists loss during fast, frequent movements and is compatible with POM, PEEK, nylon and rubber seals, reducing miniature gear noise and fretting. It serves humanoid hand micro-joints, gears and bearings. For cold operation, Roelub L082 maintains good flow and low starting torque at -40°C, supporting responsive fingertip gripping.

Rotary Joint Modules

Modules combining servo motors, precision bearings and small reducers are used in collaborative robots, SCARA robots and rotary tables under continuous rotation and intermittent oscillation. Roelub F266 protects bearings against oscillatory fretting and maintains positioning accuracy; Roelub G259 provides long-term wear and noise control in internal reduction gears; and Roelub L424 supports output-shaft seal springs to prevent leakage. Together they cover the module's bearings, gears and seals.

Linear Modules

Linear guides, sliders and ball screws face reciprocation, short-stroke vibration, dust and seal-compatibility requirements. Poor lubrication can cause sticking, noise and positioning errors. Lswdlub H221, a polymer-thickened semisynthetic grease with extreme-pressure, antiwear and anticorrosion additives, serves linear rails, sliders and bearings. It resists vibration-induced fretting, is compatible with module seals and limits dust pickup, making it suitable for periodic lubrication of assembly and handling robot slides. Internal ball screws can use Lswdlub P288 for low friction and bleeding, improved starting torque and reduced raceway indentation.

Planetary Roller Screws

With higher load capacity than ordinary ball screws, planetary roller screws are used in humanoid joint drives and heavy-duty linear actuators. Multiple highly stressed contacts and frequent reversals can break the film and wear the raceway, reducing accuracy and life. Lswdlub P124 is developed for these stresses, offering extreme-pressure and antiwear performance, low friction, controlled temperature rise and shear stability. It maintains a film during reciprocation and limits reversal-impact wear in humanoid actuators and heavy-duty robot roller-screw/nut pairs.

Different robot mechanisms require different lubricants rather than a single ordinary industrial grease. SEIVIO covers joint reducers, rotary bearings and seals, cable protection, miniature hand drives, rotary and linear modules and planetary roller screws. Matching the grade to the mechanism addresses fretting, leakage, accuracy loss and excessive noise, supporting long operating cycles and lower maintenance costs.
