High-speed, intercity and urban rail networks face dense, heavily loaded, long-duration operation. Lubrication affects safety, stability and service life. Wide temperature changes, repeated friction, dust, moisture and high-speed shocks can cause gear wear, bearing sticking, wheel/rail wear and turnout failures. This solution combines specialized products, application standards and intelligent maintenance to reduce costs and support reliable, efficient rail operation.
Traction drives operate at sustained speed and temperature; ordinary oils may oxidize and lose viscosity, allowing gear wear and reduced efficiency. Running-gear bearings and wheel flanges face heavy impacts, fatigue, noise and heat. Turnouts and trackside equipment face rain, snow, dust and temperature extremes that harden or remove grease and cause corrosion. Leakage, poor noise control and frequent maintenance also conflict with cleaner, lower-carbon operation.
The solution covers six areas across vehicles and infrastructure: traction drives, running gear, braking mechanisms, doors, turnouts/trackside equipment and wheel/rail contact.
Main gearboxes, traction-motor bearings and drive shafts face high speeds, heat and continuous load. Fully synthetic high-performance gear oil provides oxidation, antiwear and load resistance while maintaining viscosity across -40~120°C. It withstands high-speed shear and limits gear pitting, wear and scuffing, extending gearbox oil-change intervals by more than 30%. Long-life motor-bearing grease adds low volatility, low noise and aging resistance for frequent operation, limiting overheating and seizure and supporting stable power output.
Wheel and axlebox bearings face heavy loads and repeated impacts. Dedicated low-temperature, water-resistant, long-life grease protects against rain, atmospheric contamination, rust, noise and sticking in all-weather metro and high-speed rail operation.
Onboard automatic lubrication and metered trackside units control application to form a uniform film at the flange/rail contact, reducing lateral wheel/rail wear rates by more than 40% and lowering curve noise. Dry nanocomposite lubricants offer controlled friction without oily leakage, supporting cleaner maintenance.
Frequently reciprocating doors, hinges and locks require low-friction, long-life grease with limited dust collection to avoid sticking and noise. Brake mechanisms use high-temperature, emulsification-resistant lubricants to maintain function in damp conditions. Outdoor turnouts require water- and rust-resistant grease suitable for high and low temperatures, avoiding cold solidification, hot-weather loss and rain-induced corrosion. This maintains smooth switching and reduces line faults and inspection frequency.
Combine precise lubrication, intelligent monitoring and scheduled maintenance rather than relying on reactive repairs. Metered, timed and location-specific automatic systems reduce excessive, insufficient or missed manual application and improve consistency. Periodic oil analysis and equipment inspections monitor viscosity, oxidation, contamination and wear to identify developing problems and support preventive maintenance. Lubricants are selected to meet rail-industry requirements without corrosive effects or harmful residues, supporting long service and environmental requirements.
Implementation reduces wear-related failures, extends vehicle and infrastructure life and lowers replacement and labor costs. Standardized intelligent lubrication also reduces operating noise and equipment shutdowns, improving safety, smoothness and comfort while supporting efficient, low-carbon long-term operation.
